[Personal] Violent Art

Credits : DeviantArt
What is art? What can be considered as art? The answer for both these questions depends highly on the artist and its spectators. The intentions of the artist, the quality of the work and the response from its viewers are all factors that needs to be taken into consideration. Just like this can a piece of art be considered as violent art? “How can we know that art is violent?” This is one possible knowledge issue I have chosen after analyzing the above title. The real life example I have chosen is graffiti art. Graffiti is considered to be art in some cases while others consider this type of art to be violent. In the following essay I shall attempt to state the different views from various perspectives relating to the two areas of knowledge the arts and ethics.

When looking back at the title, the extent of violence would differ from each perspective you are looking at. Violence is basically the behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage or even in some situations kill someone. It can also be know as the strength of emotion or an unpleasant or destructive natural force. Violence is very much related to emotion and in most cases emotion is what triggers violence. Various factors such as your background, the culture in which you were brought and even religion could play a role when it comes to the extent you interpret violence.

Graffiti is a form of art. It could be drawings of pictures, words and designs. Graffiti has come a long way since the ancient times whereby our ancestors used graffiti to draw inscriptions and figure drawings found on the walls of ancient ruins and sculptures. Although in some people’s perspective, today, graffiti tends to be vandalism though it has helped historians interpret the event that tends to have occurred in the past.

When it comes to the arts, what one may consider as violent art may not be the same for someone else. In some other perspective, that art might be considered to be magical and they might really have a liking to it. In the case of graffiti art, we could consider the graffiti artist’s perspective. The intention of the graffiti artist differs when it comes to considering the extent of violence in the art. He/she might have drawn the graffiti to protest or mark the territory of a gang in some cases. Moreover, the graffiti might also have been intended to cause violence within the community. In both these cases, ethically this would be consider to be wrong as the graffiti would eventually lead to a high degree of violence.

Furthermore, when looking at this from the perspective of the person, who owns a property, in which graffiti may have been drawn on, he might consider this art to be violent as well. In his point of view, he might consider this to be vandalism. Vandalism means to devalue or destroy another person’s property. Ethically, vandalism is wrong and should not be done. But in the other hand. Could graffiti be considered as vandalism? Its just a work of art but in his perspective, the art on his property takes the value of the property. In the owner’s view it may show lack of respect for the owner and the property which he have likely worked hard to get.

But on the other hand, sometimes artists tend to draw graffiti to express his/her emotions and have no intention of violence. The artist may have tried to show off his/her talent of drawing to the community around as well. In both these cases the extent of violence in the graffiti is minimum to non. But in this case the perception of the viewer needs to be taken to account. Again, the viewer may consider this to be violent regardless of the intention of the artist. The viewer in the other hand may recognize the intention of the artist and like the art drawn. For that viewer the art may even make him happy. Emotions could differ the extent in which the person perceives the art to be violent.

In addition to all this, we could also look from the perspective of the government of a country. In some countries, graffiti art still remains to be illegal. From the government’s perception, graffiti art tends to cause violence within the community. In their case, they would be trying to reduce violence within the country to a minimum. Thus they label, graffiti art to be violent and then rule it as illegal.

Yet, In order to learn Hebrew, In Israel, the children uses graffiti’s on the streets and alleys of Florentin. While some people take this art to be an act of vandalism, these children tend to take this as an opportunity to learn a language. The children, does not consider this form of art to be violent at all but rather use this as a way for them to enhance their Hebrew. Due to this the violence in art is taken out in the children’s perspective. This art tend to be livelier and attracts viewers and get their attention more thus becoming a good way for the children to learn the language.

So after evaluating the claims and counterclaims regarding the extent of violence in graffiti art, at the end it comes down to the viewer’s perception. Relating this back to the knowledge issue, “How can we know that art is violent?” , various people have different perspectives on the extent of graffiti being violent. There is not a definite answer to what extent art can be violent. In my own perspective, I think you can’t definitely say that graffiti art is violent. In my opinion, graffiti is just another typical form of art and it all depends on the way they perceive that art to be. On its own, it isn’t violent at all unless it is said to be violent in the knower’s perspective. Reasons and the extent to which the art being violent differs from person to person.

[Personal] A letter to you.

Dear boyfriend.

I know I have been such a bad girlfriend. But I really do love you. This distance between us is making me sulky more and more. I know we have lasted more than a year and we are still going strong but I wanted something more. I'm so sorry for being so selfish. But, you know you have been the best thing for me and you would always be someone who can make me feel like the only girl in this world. I just cannot define how special you are. When it comes to you, I'm speechless cause' I can't find the right words to express how perfect you are to me.

I know everyone has their pros and cons. But for me it doesn't mean a thing if you are right there next to me, holding me close and whispering to ears "I love you". That would be more than enough. I know every time I feel down, I bring you down with me. I am so so sorry about it. But you'd hate it if I say sorry too many times right? But you know that word is stuck to my mouth all the time when it comes to you. I want everything to be perfect when it comes to you.

I know I can be clumsy at times okay make it most of the time. But I try not to be clumsy in front of you even though I don't do a very good job at it. I try to be the best girl for you, but most of the time I fail, but you love me regardless. How do you tolerate me? Do you love me that much? I'm sure you would. I know you that much now. But i do get scared, what if it gets less? It won't right? I am going to be right here too. I'm going to love you too.

Is being my girlfriend hard? I hope not. I know I am loud, talkative and I have an obsession that comes between some times. But, I promise I won't let it. I really do love you, and I would do anything for us to be together. You also, please don't get bored of me, love me for who I am, I know you already do but still... I really love you and always will. Forever always lets be us and never be you and I right? And yes, this was the best 1 year 2 months of my life, because you were right there with me. I love you the most.

Love,
Your awesome girlfriend, who can be a bit non-awesome sometimes.

[Personal] Dreaming about a life without work.

Credits : Deviantart(Kiwixphotography)
There would be work in every chapter of life. Without working life wouldn't be life anymore. But what do we know about life? It's just a word that describes someone's existence? But nowadays, for that mere existence we need money. and for money you need to work your butts off. I wonder myself, what if we could get everything we wanted, without doing any work? Just sitting at home doing what you actually enjoy doing. Now, that would be great, but in reality you can't get anything you want without working. We work to earn money, to pay off our debts, to fit in with the wealthy lifestyle, to get three meals a day and so on. Without this medium of exchange, the world would not be fair. But in some cases, we work to get prove ourselves, prove our worth in the world or to even make a little space for you. A space where no one could take your place. For that even we need to work. But still, knowing all this, don't you wonder, if only we could achieve all that without ever having to work. Enjoy our lives, leaving the piles of papers to rust in a corner and no one ever bothers touching it? But either way, this can only dreamed as reality will punch you in your face one way or another. I don't want to do any work. Not even a bit. I want to stay in my home do what I like which would be "Listening to kpop", "Talking to my boyfriend who is miles away in Singapore", "Face-booking", "tweeting", "Watching dramas". Now if only this was possible. Just staying in my home doing what I want. No work, no papers, no nothing.

[Review] Reply to 1997

The drama which have been getting so much attention these past few week, is it worth watching? You can tell that question goodbye, permanently cause' it's worth every penny. Even though, I haven't spent any. But, every episode has the suspension of the next episode. What would happen? Who is the guy? Weirdly, I watched this every week. Usually I watch the first episode and wait for the whole series to end. But this time, it was different, I couldn't wait to watch the next episode. To see what the next episode will bring us. Believe me, the drama is that welcoming. (This is my first review so it would be a bit glitchy, I shall try my hardest to improve in my review writing).

Here's the synopsis of the drama (yes! I'm not giving spoilers) : This drama will focus on the extreme fan culture that emerged in the 1990s when idol groups took center stage and K-pop was blossoming. It tells the story of 6 former high school friends from a school in Busan who meet again in 2012 and brings back memories to 1997 when they were still high school students. Moving back and forth between the ’90s and today, the story centers on the life of Sung Si Won (Jung Eun Ji), who idolizes boy band H.O.T. and her 5 high school friends.

I think everything is in the right place for this drama. As the plot is good and very unique too. The characters are very well matched to the roles. But, I would say I like the character played by Hoya(Infinite) is the most challenging one. As you would have read in the news, he plays a homosexual character. It was very shocking indeed. But thumbs up to that guy for trying it in a very conservative country like south Korea. And not to mention Eunji(A-pink) and Seo in guk's busan dialect do catches eyes very easily or maybe ears in my case. Honestly, I have no idea how to differentiate them, I'm just a random girl from Maldives.

Well, the copyrights to this drama are very strict, too strict I guess. Blogs being deleted if they post download links, or even the subtitles. That scares me. What if no one releases the final episode's subtitles? I would have to watch RAW videos I guess. Luckily, I found this awesome blog which posts it's videos, but not the subs. (Not mentioning the name). But, the torrents are alive I think. I have some subtitles, just let me know it you want the subs. Send me an email to (ripzzie@gmail.com). But, I don't have episode 16's sadly. And I would kill to get my hands on those .srt files.

So overall I rate this drama 9/10. I gave it 9 because of the suspense, It's good at the same time not so good. But the drama is totally worth it. Go watch it guys. Trust me you won't regret the decision.

[Personal] Miles apart

Everyone says long distance relationship doesn't work. They say they are bound to end one way or another. But, what if we could prove everyone wrong? What if we prove that our this, long distance relationship would last? It has been 1 year and 2 months with you. I could clearly remember everything about you. The day we got into a relationship. It was 1 hour before you left Maldives and went to Singapore. It was one hell of a night right? We met, that moment when I saw your face, I knew you were the one and I had to have you no matter what. I really do love you. and no matter what this girl right here is going to be right there for you. I know I can be stupid and arrogant at times, but do accept me for who I am. I am one of those girls, who when she is angry tends to say loads of stuff, but you know I don't mean it right? You were always there, you always understood me. I still wonder, how do you do that? How do you understand my every need? My every stupid need? You accept my k-pop obsession. I don't know how to thankyou enough. All I can say is I have the best boyfriend alive. Even if you are miles apart, I will wait for your return right here. and starting from today "19 September 2012". I shall write my stupid thoughts on this blog. I hope I could maintain it, because I suck at these stuff. In other words, I suck at blogging and stuff.
